Well Worth The Trip

The Sharon & Pheb's Menu
food photo

A basic dinner presentationDon't expect to see a detailed menu at Sharon & Pheb's Restaurant.

That's because every single day of the year, a different range of  fresh ingredients becomes available from the farmers and fishermen in and around Charlotteville. So Sharon and her staff create brand new meals to accommodate the best they can buy.

But don't worry, it's still easy to order  dinner.

Once seated, you'll be asked which of that day's main choices you prefer. These almost always include fish and chicken.

On some days, dishes made from locally raised pork, island goat or beef are added. food photoOn other days, you'll be offered reef lobster or shrimp fresh from nearby waters. And the selection process isn't over yet!

Sharon's kitchen can prepare each of these main choices in a variety of ways. You'll often get to choose among sauces based on four tasty concepts---Spicy Creole, Garlic-and-Butter, Curry and Sweet-and-Sour. And if you ask, your host or hostess will describe in detail all the various side dishes prepared fresh that very day. These might include a vegetable melange, spicy rice, potatoes-in-sauce, three-color bean-bake, pasta, plaintain, breadfruit and/or some other local specialties.

A delicious salad will be included as part of your plate, or at your request can be served separately (as shown on the left).  From time to time, a rich hearty soup is added to the menu, most often on Fridays, and might be suggested in place of the salad.

In short, the main meals are usually "works in progress" subject to any number of choices from day to day.

Of course, numerous other meals can also be ordered. Fish and chips is a local favorite for lunch and dinner alike. Some folks prefer a vegetarian meal, which the kitchen is more than willing to produce on a moment's notice. When a particular side dish is mentioned, some diners opt for an entire meal built around that particular choice.

Beverages

The restaurant maintains a full bar, including several of the world's most popular rums, whiskies and other liquors. Aperitifs are also numerous, so virtually any taste can be accommodated. You can choose among several regional or imported beers and a range of wine labels. Mixed drinks can be enjoyed, too, with the rum punch a common favorite. Prices depend on the particular selections, but are always reasonable.

Menu Prices

The view and atmosphere are priceless, but Sharon & Pheb's does have a basic price structure for meals.

Usually, a complete dinner plate costs TT$60, which under the prevailing exchange rate is about US$10 (paying in US currency usually involves a 1-to-6 exchange rate with the TT dollar; credit cards are not accepted). Some special preparations---including the local lobster, shrimp, and some special meats---bring the dinner plate to TT$90.

The cost of a special order, such as a complete vegetarian meal, is calculated on the spot with the promise of extreme fairness. A plate of fish and chips costs about TT$36, depending on which fish variety is used that day.

Box takeout meals, most useful as snacks or beach picnic fare, are often priced between TT$12 and TT$20

Customers put  tips in a glass jar atop the bar.
